Kootenay Children’s Festival is back for another year, and it’s bigger and better than ever.
There will be multiple days worth of events this year, and more entertainers than in previous years. The festival runs May 10 from 3 to 7:30 p.m., and May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Rotary Park in Cranbrook.
It also coincides with opening day of the outdoor Cranbrook Farmer’s Market, and a portion of the downtown area stretching from 10 Ave. South to Baker St. will be closed to traffic to accommodate both events.
The festival is the largest free event for children and families in southeast B.C.
The Taylor Swift Dance Extravaganza kicks off the party on May 10 at 4 p.m. DJ Steve Russel will be playing the pop star’s greatest hits spanning over a decade of music, from her timeless second album Fearless to her most recent release Midnights.

The Golden Crust Family, Karima Essa and Christina The Crazy Hooper are among many talented performers that will make an appearance.
Christina Munchinsky is a travelling entertainer from Brandon, MB. who can hula 200 hoops at once. She has been hooping since she was five years old, and her commitment to her passion has landed her performances on Canada’s Got Talent, Winnipeg’s ComedyFest and The Ellen DeGeneres show. She performs at 10:30 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. on May 11, and will be offering a workshop for those who want to sharpen their hoop skills.
Karima Essa is a Bollywood starlet from Vancouver who is a three-time Canadian National Dance champion and a two-time finalist on Bollywood Star in Mumbai, India. She works her magic at 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m on May 11.
The Golden Crust Family is a comedic travelling circus duo from Quebec that performs as Grace and Kevin, a snowbird couple who spends the winter down in Florida in a trailer park, barbecuing, lounging, and soaking up the sun. They love to perform tricks, play music and make their audience laugh. The pair are hitting the road in their RV and driving all the way across the country to Cranbrook for the festival, and they’ll arrive just in time to make final act of the day at 3:00 p.m. on May 11.
