From minor ailment prescribing to hormone therapy, Gray’s Compounding Pharmacy offers diverse support for the Cranbrook and Kimberley communities
Most people visit a pharmacy to pick up a prescription someone else wrote. But for a growing number of residents, the pharmacy itself has become the first call.
“People often think of us as the last stop – you bring us a prescription and we fill it,” says Michelle Gray, owner of Gray’s Compounding Pharmacy in Kimberley. “But we can do so much more than that.”
In B.C., pharmacists can now prescribe for 21 minor ailments, from acne and allergic rhinitis to urinary tract infections, shingles and oral ulcers – as well as contraception and emergency contraception.
That means walk-in-level care is often available right at the pharmacy counter, without waiting for a doctor’s appointment.
Medication reviews are another service many residents don’t know to ask for. At Gray’s, those reviews incorporate lab work and can include guidance on supplements and nutrients.
“Some medications can deplete the body of certain vitamins and minerals over time,” Michelle adds. “Our pharmacy team helps patients understand and address those gaps through functional medicine support.”
The pharmacy also offers blister packaging, strip pouch packaging and Spencer Care dispensing systems available for rental. These automated devices dispense scheduled medications at the right time – an important consideration for seniors managing multiple medications and supplements while juggling factors like dexterity, memory and activity level.
Michelle notes that incorrect medication use is one of the leading causes of hospitalization among older adults, making the right dispensing solution an essential part of staying safely at home.

Both Michelle and fellow pharmacist Stephanie hold Certificates of Masters in hormone replacement therapy, offering consultations that help patients understand their options and work with their health care providers on treatment.
“Hormones affect so many areas of health and they’re often overlooked,” Michelle says. “We want patients to feel like they have somewhere to go where someone actually understands what they’re dealing with and truly cares.”
The team also offers non-sterile compounding services, preparing custom medications in a range of forms – creams, suspensions, lozenges, capsules, nasal sprays and suppositories – for both human and pet patients.
They also carry a wide selection of compression socks, including fittings for prescription-strength, non-prescription and diabetic-specific styles. Vaccine and travel vaccine appointments can be booked directly through the pharmacy at grayspharmacy.ca.
“We’re a close-knit team offering a wide range of services,” Michelle says. “March is Pharmacy Awareness month and is a great reminder for people to come in and have a conversation. You might just be surprised by what we can help you with.”
Free delivery is available Wednesdays to Cranbrook and Thursdays in Kimberley.
